K3 Parent-child Reading Workshop

On May 14th 2024, each class in the K3 of our kindergarten held a parent-child reading workshop, aiming to provide parents with more effective parent-child reading strategies and enhance parent-child relationships. Teachers shared parent-child reading methods with parents theoretically and practically.

In the workshop, teachers first analyzed and clarified some misunderstandings of parent-child reading, then explained the purpose of parent-child reading and how to effectively carry out parent-child reading. Finally, the teacher used the book "Dinosaur Bus" as an example to demonstrate how to carry out parent-child reading for parents. Moreover, provided parents practicing opportunities by having teachers read half of the book and parents to read the other half, it immediately deepens their impressions, and allows them to apply what they have learned. In addition, teachers taught parents how to choose suitable storybooks for their children; for example, based on their interests, reading level, and age level. As a result, parents will be clearer and have more ideas when choosing storybooks. After the workshop, many parents indicated that they thought their children could not focus and had no interest in reading. However, they realized that it was because they lack of strategies on how to read storybooks interestingly and effectively with their children.

This parent-child reading workshop received many positive feedbacks from parents. Parents learned many effective parent-child reading strategies or methods to make parent-child reading more interesting. Both parents and children can experience the fun of reading, more importantly, children will develop some good habits about reading which have great impacts on them academically.
