On December 12 2023, HKP Primary School and Secondary School held assemblies about The National Memorial Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre. The purpose of this assembly is to let students deeply understand the significance of the National Memorial Day, so as to remember history and promote cherishing peace to teachers and students.
At the Primary School assembly, the student emcees led us to review the bloody and painful history through video. Afterwards, students expressed their determination not to forget history through a theme speech, warning everyone to cherish peace and reject war. Finally, the loud and clear singing of "My Motherland and I" echoed in the hall. The students sang the song to convey their love for the motherland, and to express their determination to remember history, cherish peace, and to make China stronger.
The Secondary School assembly began with a one-minute silent to pay tribute to the compatriots who suffered innocently in the Nanjing Massacre and the soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives in the 14-year war of resistance. Afterwards, the History teachers team gave a unique presentation to the students and teachers in the form of a short film, a stage play, and a poem recitation of the war. Finally, students from the Student Union led an online memorial ceremony on the National Memorial website, in which they lit candles, laid flowers and tolled bells.
President Xi once said, "History is the best textbook and the best sobering agent." Through this Nanjing Massacre commemorative activity, we hope that our students will remember the tragedy of history, think of danger in times of peace, and work hard to become the pillars of defending and building the motherland in the future.
