In the afternoon of 13th October, HKP Secondary school held the opening ceremony of the series of lectures on “Siku Quanshu” (Complete Library of the Four Treasuries) in the school hall.
In the opening ceremony, nearly 500 teachers and students participated in the recital of classical excerpts from “The Analects” and “Xunzi”. During the read-aloud, they deeply felt the heritage and unique charm of Chinese traditional culture, which was a very encouraging and moving scene.
During the ceremony, Principal Niu said that on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Macao's handover to the motherland, President Xi Jinping visited the school and presented a set of “Siku Quanshu”, which is now treasured in the school library. Chinese civilisation is the only uninterrupted ancient civilisation, and its 5,000 years of history is the source of our cultural confidence.
“All along, teachers and students of Hou Kong have been following the teachings and encouragement of President Xi - as a Chinese, we must understand the history of our nation." Principal Niu also encouraged students to study hard, to pass on and develop Chinese traditional culture, to work hard and to strive for a new generation of young people who love their country and Macau.
After the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Wang Sihao of the University of Macau gave the first lecture of the series - Ten Questions on the Siku Quanshu, explaining in depth the content, scale, reasons for compilation, process of compilation, collection, and the historical origin of the Siku Quanshu and Macao.
He encouraged students to remember the importance of learning from the Siku Quanshu, and to bear in mind the reminder from President Xi Jinping, to take up the historical mission entrusted by the times, and to become the pillars of Macao and the country. Teachers and students benefited greatly from this talk.
In the past, in order to strengthen the learning and transmission of Chinese traditional culture, HKP invited Professor Li Guanding, a famous scholar in Macao, to give a seminar Siku Quanshu to the school. After that, teachers and students started to read the History Books, wrote their own experiences which was compiled in a special commemorative publication.
Following the first lecture, the school will organise a series of thematic lectures, special readings, research sharing and report writing on the Siku Quanshu in this academic year. It is hoped that through the series of programmes, students will learn and study the Siku Quanshu in depth, gain a better understanding of the history and culture of the Chinese nation, enhance their national pride and cultural self-confidence, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
